How to pitch The Word

The Word is news, commentary, and analysis on journalism, style in media, and accessibility for an audience largely working in journalism and media.

The Word accepts pitches of reporting, commentary, and analysis on issues in journalism, news style, and accessibility in journalism in the following formats:

  • text, with preference given to 800 words or less;
  • audio with transcript, with preference given to about 6 minutes or less;
  • video with transcript, with preference given to about 6 minutes or less;
  • or a combination of any of the three formats.

Preference is given to reported work over opinion and analysis.

Pitches should include your name, a description of your pitch, and a way to contact you.

Don’t forget to send a resume or where you’ve previously worked, and samples of your previous work. Some examples of this might include:

  • clips of your articles, news segments, or podcasts;
  • pieces you’ve edited or produced;
  • accessibility work you’ve done, such as websites you’ve audited or built;
  • speeches you’ve given on accessibility or journalism;
  • or courses you’ve taught on accessibility.

Please remember that The Word is a publication of Equal Access Public Media, and you will be using the EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide in your work.

Send your pitches to pitch@the-word.news with the word Pitch in the subject line.
